ABOUT
Dr Ivan Schewitz is an innovative Cardiothoracic Surgeon with his practice, Pectus Clinic, based in Midrand. Preceding his specialisation in Cardiothoracic Surgery, he completed his medical degree and has since been in private practice also working as a part-time consultant for Oliver Tambo Hospital, Natalspruit Hospital, Medunsa and Pretoria University. Throughout his career as a Heart, Lung and Chest Specialist, Dr Schewitz has delivered over forty cardiothoracic presentations, with some related explicitly to pectus deformity correction.
In addition to him being a council member of the South African Thoracic Society and Director of the VATS Workshops, Dr Ivan Schewitz, known as an innovator in his field of Cardiothoracic Surgery, is affiliated to prestigious groups that include:
- The General Thoracic Club (USA)
- The Chest Wall International Group
- The European Thoracic and Cardiothoracic Society
As a pioneer in the speciality of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Dr Ivan Schewitz was the first to introduce the Minimally Invasive Nuss procedure and Thoracoscopic Surgery to South Africa. Dr Schewitz specialises in pectus deformity correction and performs Ravitch and Nuss procedures to resolve Pectus Carinatum and Excavatum.
