As a Chiropractor, my practice is focussed on Spine Care. Spine Care is about, but not limited to, restoration of function in mechanical spine pain.

The joints of function in the spine are the facet joints or zygapophyseal joints, aligned alongside the vertebra. Lack of range of motion here inadvertently affects the status of the intervertebral disc. Chiropractic attends to specific facet joint/s aberrations and selectively addresses them by skilled manipulative procedures.

In cases where surgery is indicated in disc lesions, the outcome can be enhanced by first restoring function to the facet joints. Should the symptoms subside, in this preliminary phase, surgery may not be necessary. If symptoms persist, the successful surgical outcome will be enhanced.

The degree of degenerative changes in the hyaline cartilage within the facet joints can influence the response to the manipulative procedure. Should the degeneration have reached (and there is currently not a diagnostic procedure available to determine this) the point of no repair, the option of fusion becomes the last resort.

Facet infiltration and epidural procedures are being implemented as a precursor to surgery, with good short term results. Again, these procedures can be enhanced with selective manipulation, producing extended results.

Spine Care practitioners have a holistic approach towards and inter professional co-operation when attending to spinal lesions.
