ABOUT
Karen Cohen is a licensed psychotherapist who is passionate about providing counselling for both couples, individuals and adolescents dealing with stress, anxiety and trauma-related issues. Karen began practising as a clinical psychologist in 2000 after completing her master’s degree in psychology at the University of Johannesburg in 1999.
Throughout her career, Karen has served as a counsellor and mediator for marital issues, adolescent problems and trauma-related psychological conditions. She has also lectured and supervised university students at both the University of Johannesburg and the Midrand Graduate Institute. It was during this time that she developed an interest in counselling patients struggling to adjust to life in foreign countries.
Upon returning to South Africa, Karen served as a clinical psychologist for the United Herzlia Schools in Cape Town until 2014. During this time, she provided trauma and career counselling for parents, high school students and teachers.
Karen Cohen currently works in private practise at Deerpark House in Vredehoek where she offers a practical approach to trauma recovery, stress management, depression, anxiety and relationship issues. As part of her treatment technique, Karen favours cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and aims to empower her patients.
