Julie Perks work closely with inpatients and outpatients covering a wide variety of nutritional aspects from assessment, supplementation, counselling and diet planning for specific conditions. She have a special interest in diabetes, IBS management and the low FODMAP diet, HIV/AIDS, sports nutrition, oncology, fussy eating or weight concerns in children and in adult weight loss.

She is involved in the treatment of both in- and out-patients. With regards to inpatients her focus areas are in medical and surgical for any patient where nutrition is affected such as during a stroke, heart attack, cancer (particularly GIT), GIT surgery and diet, HIV and associated complications, malnutrition, TB, burns, gastroenteritis, CP, head injuries, chronic wound healing, patients unable to eat requiring NGT feeding. She is then also responsible for all dietary counselling for any condition but particularly for Diabetes, Hypertension, high Cholesterol and patients requiring a specific diet for home (e.g. liquid diets, puree diets, high protein etc).

Outpatient consults consist of counselling for the following: sports nutrition and achieving specific training goals, HIV, underweight, overweight, diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, fussy eating in children, infant and young child feeding, breastfeeding counselling and support, diverticular disease, allergies (particularly wheat and gluten) and growth monitoring. She is also accredited with EatFit SA for the management of IBS and other gastrointestinal conditions.

She also offers counselling on variety of conditions as well as dietary analyses. I am able to perform in depth anthropometric analyses with body weight, body fat percentage, body water percentage, bone mass, visceral fat ratings and muscle mass. I am also then able to compile personalized meal plans for patients.

Julie is also accredited to the CDE (Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology).

Considering that nutrition and particularly good nutrition is pivotal in achieving optimal health and wellbeing Julie is able to assist with a vast number of conditions.
