- Neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy and rehabilitation
Physiotherapy is a profession that involves working with patients in order to identify and maximize their ability to move and function. Physiotherapists use evidence-based and new research as well as practical skills together with clinical reasoning to achieve improved function and quality of life for their clients. We at Constantiaberg Human Performance have a very hands-on approach and focus on rehabilitation. We believe in preventative care and empowering our patients in helping themselves by managing their bodies and condition. - Post-operative orthopaedic physiotherapy
This involves several different conditions like total joint replacement (knee and hips) to Achilles tendon repairs. Post-operative physiotherapy involves the physiotherapist working to achieve the fullest function for each patient. Constantiaberg Human Performance’s physiotherapist works on a range of movement if the soft tissues and joints, which includes mobilizing the tendons, fascia, ligaments, muscles and nerves. These soft tissues may be impacted before or after surgery due to joint replacements or tissues have been under strain or stress. The main aim of post-operative physiotherapy is to achieve full function on the operated area, with the use of activities done on a daily. This is done to assist the patient return to their pre-injury sport state. - Lymphoedema and breast care
Lymphoedema develops when your arm or leg's lymph vessels are not able to adequately drain lymph fluid, resulting in the affected limb being inflamed. There are two different types of lymphoedema, like primary and secondary lymphoedema. Meaning, it can develop on its own, called primary lymphedema, or it may be caused by an underlying condition, called secondary lymphedema. Secondary lymphoedema is progressive, leading to chronic swelling and inflammation due to damaged lymphatic vessels and/or lymph nodes. This results in a fluid or other substance buildup in the tissue spaces such as subcutaneous fat or protein. Lymphoedema is most commonly associated with cancer; however, it may also occur after trauma, venous disease, burns, inflammation, infection, or immobility. Treatment includes lymph drainage and multi-layered banging or the mobiderm system. - Pilates
These are also called Art of Contrology. This doesn’t only involve exercise; however, it includes re-education of correct movement patterns like a stabilizer to create support before the mobiliser moves. When muscles ate under stress, it either lengthens or shortens due to lack of activity done. Therefore, a combination of muscle may be used to achieve a certain movement creating a cheating mechanism where a mobiliser is recruited without a stable base. The cheating mechanism may, in turn, strain certain areas of the body and cause pain. Gentler stabilizing principles have a better success rate in managing back pain than traditional strengthening methods, by increasing coordination and strength of deep abdominal muscles. This also stabilizes and protects the lumbar spine. - Shockwave therapy
This is normally used by orthopaedics, physiotherapy, sports medicine, urology and veterinary medicine. Shockwave therapy is an affordable therapy that is successful for patients that are undergoing physiotherapy or for patients who are not responding well to physiotherapy. It provides benefits that are relative to quick pain relief and improvement of mobility. During the procedure, the affected tissue is identified, and the shockwave is placed against the skin above the affected the tissue. Impulses of energy will then be distributed, which then increases the blood flow in the affected area, cell regeneration and healing is stimulated, and local pain factors will be reduced. - Hand and upper limb therapy
Hand therapy is part of occupational therapy which is normally recommended to treat orthopaedic-based and neurologically-based conditions of the upper extremity conditions. This rehabilitation focuses on the shoulder down to the fingers due to post-injury, surgery or onset of a disease. Common conditions that an occupational therapist treats include fractures of the hand or arm, lacerations and amputations, burns and tendons and nerves surgical repairs. Acquired conditions may include tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. The main goal of hand and upper limb therapy is to help the patient regain maximum function, independence and reintegration of all daily activities. - Splinting and pressure garments
Splints are custom made and fabricated out of low-temperature thermoplastic or soft material like forms of neoprene, depending on the type of injury the patient has and its severity. These materials can be adjustable as the patient improves, the swelling decreases and/or increase their range of motion. Pressure garments are custom made garments, normally recommended to treat scars, burns, plastic surgery with skin flaps or grafts and swelling. - Arthritis and hypermobility
This may affect both adults and children. Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis may affect the patient's functional life drastically. Treatment may include Wendy Great head will teach her patients joint protection principles, splinting, assistive devices and strengthening when needed. - Pain management
Chronic pain is a chronic disease that a lot of people suffer from. People who experience chronic pain are compromised in their normal daily activities due to the severity of the pain. Constantiaberg Human Performance's pain threshold is influenced by the brain's interpretation of the pain, what type of pain it is and how severe it is. This allows the occupational therapist to influence to assist in the management of the pain. Progressive goal attainment programme (PGAP) assists patients who are suffering from pain learn how to control the pain and allow them the opportunity to engage in daily activities again. - Orthopaedic and chronic rehabilitation

Chronic disease management for diabetes, hypertension, stroke, cancer, etc., is offered to manage and monitor these chronic diseases. - Back and core strengthening classes
These are classes that try to target a lot of muscles at the same time with special focus placed on stretching, range of motion and strengthening the lumbar and abdominal muscles. This helps the patient's stabilization. These classes are small to ensure that supervising biokineticist is able to assist and monitor everyone during the session. Strength, core stability, and proprioception (balance) rehabilitation or exercise programmes help reduce the risk of lower back pain, especially when exercising. - Cardiac rehabilitation
This is a supervised programme that is aimed at improving heart health and cardiovascular fitness. During rehabilitation, the patient’s blood pressure and vital signs are monitored constantly by a biokineticists.
