Services includes :
- Prenatal Counselling:
This is a counselling session offered to couples who are expecting, to prepare them for life after having a baby. Life after childbirth may feel upside down, but prenatal counselling helps parents adjust to life with a newborn and ensures the best possible care for the little one. These visits prepare parents with things such as breast feeding options, conditions that are common among newborns, and sleeping patterns. Dr Mason helps new and existing parents prepare for childbirth and prepares them mentally for the challenges and bliss that awaits them in parenthood, especially in motherhood. - Neonatology & Newborn Care:
Dr Barbara Mason may be present during and after childbirth and assist parents with taking care of their little one in hospital until the baby is discharged. During the hospital stay, Dr Mason will focus mainly on the little one’s temperature, heart rate, eye health and breathing rate. She will also focus on the little one’s skin colour, Apgar scoring and measuring birth weight. After being discharged, you will be scheduled for follow up appointments with the paediatrician to ensure that the little one is healthy, adjusting to life outside the womb, and you and your partner are adjusting to parenthood. - Wellness Child Visits
Dr Mason is passionate about the general health and well-being of her little patients. She provides extra care for both premature and full-term babies, which involves her checking them from head to toe. Baby wellness appointments will be done at 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 4 months, 8 months, 12 months, and 18 months. After that, these wellness appointments may be done annually or when needed. During these appointments, the paediatrician will conduct a comprehensive assessment which involves the little one’s growth, weight gain and development. Dr Mason may also ask about the little one’s habits, feeding problems, bowel movements, as well as sleep patterns and skin problems. - Growth Assessment:
The paediatrician will monitor and assess the little one’s growth to check whether he/she is developing correctly. Growth assessment involves Dr Mason measuring the baby’s height, weight and head circumference, and plot it on a growth chart. A growth chart helps monitor any changes in the baby’s growth that may occur and check whether he/she is meeting growth standards for their age. Dr Mason also pays attention to development and nutrition because they are interrelated to growth. This ensures that proper nutritional diet is adhered to and assists parents with food and related dietary concerns during the infancy, toddler and middle childhood stages. - Developmental Assessment:
This assessment involves the paediatrician measuring and evaluating development milestones both physically and cognitively. Children grow up fast; therefore, developmental assessment encompasses changes in the body, emotional intelligence, cognitive development and maturational milestones. These developmental milestones may include sitting up, crawling, walking, babbling and basic senses. Monitoring these developmental aspects helps Dr Mason ensure that delays in physical or intellectual development are addressed appropriately as well, giving parent’s advice on how to shape and support their child’s development. - Management of Acute Illness:
Dr Mason is passionate about her little patient’s well-being and is well equipped to diagnose, treat and manage paediatric acute and chronic diseases that your child might have. Children's immune systems are not as strong as adult's immune systems; a minor illness may result in an acute infection. It is important that you pay attention to your child and watch for any problematic symptoms and seek medical attention when they become worse. Any serious symptoms that are becoming severe and not resolving themselves may indicate the presence of a serious infection. Signs and symptoms to look out for include earache, yellow-green discharge from the eye, a dry cough, and or fever or chills. - Critical care
In some cases, certain illnesses are harmless and mild, which will later resolve themselves without the need for any emergency care. However, more alarming conditions need immediate care. As a specialist paediatrician, Dr Mason provides exceptional emergency paediatric care as well as critical care. She encourages parents to pay close attention to any signs and symptoms that may indicate a serious condition that requires immediate care. Signs that raise serious concern include severe pale skin, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea. Seizures, a high fever, epilepsy and seizures may also require a visit to the paediatrician. - Chronic illness:
As a specialist paediatrician, Dr Mason has experience in diagnosing, treating and managing various medical conditions that may arise in your child. She assists in diagnosing and managing chronic conditions such as learning disorders, ear infections, respiratory conditions and chronic gastrointestinal conditions. She may also help diagnose and manage other conditions such as inborn endocrine, metabolism disorders, and heart conditions. Dr Mason may refer to other specialists when need be and also assist parents in providing the best possible healthcare for their children by making an informed decision about the well-being of their children. - Neurodevelopment & Learning difficulties:
Brain development is essential in a child's development for learning, behaviour and social performance. Dr Mason alerts parents to what neurodevelopment milestones to look out for in their children. This helps understand what learning hurdles your child might be facing and needs to overcome during childhood, in order to provide the necessary support they need to reach these neurodevelopment milestones. The paediatrician will pay close attention to neurodevelopment during the child wellness visits and emphasises parental education during these visits. To help diagnose neurodevelopment and learning difficulties, the paediatrician will ask about problematic behaviour or learning-related issues that the child may be experiencing.
