ABOUT
Dr Phillip Coetzee is a compassionate and well-experienced paediatrician who is currently based in Cape Town. He matriculated from DF Malan High School and then went on to study medicine at the University of Stellenbosch. Upon graduating with an MBChB in 2010, he did an internship at the Free State Hospital complex in Bloemfontein in 2011. In 2013, he worked in the nursery and paediatric ward of a small district hospital in Botshabelo as part of community service. Through the University of the Free State, he did registrar training and then went on to obtain a master’s degree in medicine in paediatrics. He then did four years of registrar training at the Universitas Academic Hospital and Pelonomi Tertiary Hospital; he gained experience in managing general and specialised acute and chronic childhood conditions. After this, Dr Coetzee became a Fellow in the College of Paediatricians of South Africa in 2017. Dr Coetzee returned to Cape Town at the end of 2017 to be closer to his family and then spent 2018 working as a locum paediatrician in several private and government hospitals all around Cape Town.
Services includes :
- Newborn care; your first few appointments with Dr Coetzee will be centred around the general well-being of your newborn baby as well as equipping you with the tools and skills you need for parenthood
- General well-baby and child visits; for well-baby visits, you will need to see your paediatrician at least four times in the first year and then annually after that to ensure that your child is in good health
- Feeding and growth problems; during the general consultations with Dr Coetzee, he focuses on feeding issues (breastfeeding) as well as nutritional intake
- Development and behaviour problems; here, Dr Coetzee assesses the development of your child according to the standard development changes that should be taking place at his/her age
- Learning difficulties; brain development is very crucial for your child’s general development. Through assessment of your child’s neurodevelopment, Dr Coetzee can point out any neurological conditions or developmental delays that may exist
- Bladder infections and bedwetting; if you notice any abnormal bedwetting with your child, your paediatrician may assist you with diagnostic tests and treatment
- Ear, nose and throat problems; in treatment for any infections found here, Dr Coetzee believes in tackling the cause of the infection and not just relieving the pain
- Chest infections and asthma; children’s immune systems are vulnerable to respiratory infections. Allow your paediatrician to assess your child to advise on antibiotics or any other medication
- Diarrhoea, vomiting and constipation; during a consultation with Dr Coetzee, he will begin by asking you questions about your child’s condition. Knowing your child’s health will assist Dr Coetzee in forming the best treatment option for you.
- Skin rashes and eczema; your child may require individualised treatment which Dr Coetzee will be able to provide for your child.
