  • Diabetes
Diabetes, sugar diabetes, or diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease that impairs the body's ability to process glucose or blood sugar, which is essential to health. It is the source of energy for cells that make up muscles and tissues. Glucose is also the primary fuel source for your brain, and if diabetes is left untreated, high blood sugar levels may damage nerves, kidneys, eyes, and other organs. Type one diabetes, type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, and gestational diabetes are the different types of diabetes. Dr du Plooy may conduct a range of tests to diagnose diabetes and treat patients according to its severity. Insulin injections, insulin pumps, diabetes medication, exercise and diet may be used in diabetes treatment. Tests will include blood sugar tests to determine blood sugar levels.
  • Obesity
Obesity is a medical condition where excess weight or body fat is being carried, affecting the patient's overall health. Obesity is usually diagnosed with a high body mass index and is affiliated with "fat" people who are overweight. It increases the risk of other diseases and health complications such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and certain cancers. It can be resultant of metabolic factors, inherited factors, personal diet, and exercise choices. Dr du Plooy will conduct a series of tests to determine a diagnosis of obesity. Treatment may include dietary changes, exercise, behaviour changes, prescription weight-loss medication, endoscopic procedures, or weight-loss surgeries.
  • Hypertension
Hypertension or high blood pressure is the force that blood exerts against the blood vessels' walls and is dependent on the amount of blood the heart pumps and the amount of resistance to blood flow present in the arteries. The more blood the heart pumps and the narrower the arteries, the higher the blood pressure. Hypertension symptoms can vary according to severity. It can be caused by various conditions, medications, kidney problems, adrenal gland tumours, thyroid problems, and certain congenital defects. If Dr du Plooy diagnoses high blood pressure, medication or lifestyle changes such as exercise, weight management, a healthy diet, and stress management may be implemented as treatment.
  • Dyslipidaemia
Dyslipidaemia refers to having unhealthy blood lipid being either too high or too low. Blood lipids are fatty substances such as cholesterol and triglycerides. Types of dyslipidaemia are high levels of low-density lipoproteins (LDL) or bad cholesterol, Low levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDL) or good cholesterol, high levels of triglycerides, and high levels of low-density lipoproteins and triglyceride or high cholesterol. If Dr du Plooy diagnoses dyslipidaemia, treatment will depend on the underlying cause and how severe the condition is. Medication and lifestyle changes may be included in the treatment procedure.
  • Endocrine Disorders
The endocrine system is a network of glands responsible for producing and releasing hormones that help control body functions, such as changing glucose into energy. It influences how the heartbeats, how bones and tissues grow and the body's ability to conceive. There are different endocrine glands, namely the adrenal glands, hypothalamus, ovaries, islet cells in the pancreas, parathyroid, pineal gland, pituitary gland, testes, thymus, and thyroid. Endocrine disorders are diseases related to these glands. Adrenal insufficiency, Cushing's disease, acromegaly (gigantism) and other growth hormone problems, thyroid problems, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and precocious puberty are the different types of endocrine disorders. Dr du Plooy will treat endocrine disorders by correcting the hormone imbalances.
